When you think of Black and Decker you immediately think of big powerful tools for DIY or the garden – and maybe not for cleaning the floors in your kitchen. But you’d be surprised. Very pleasantly surprised, in fact, when you cast your eye over the Black and Decker steam mop range.
Packed with a variety of features not seen on steam mops from other manufacturers, the steam mops from Black and Decker are designed to make your home cleaning as easy and enjoyable as it could possibly be. The AutoSelect technology, for instance, will emit the right amount of steam needed for the particular floor surface your cleaning. Steam On Demand will deliver a 50% extra burst of steam at the push of a button when you come across stubborn grease or grime and the brilliantly agile mop head manoeuvres around furniture and into the tightest of spaces with an ease that makes cleaning fun.
The FSM1630 Deluxe is another entry into the Black and Decker steam mop range that needs to be used to fully grasp just how good it is. Although it comes as just a standalone mop with no detachable steam cleaner, what it does well is exactly what it is designed for : to clean your floors to a level you never imagined. Packed with features such as Steam on Demand to give the most stubborn grime an extra burst and a 2 in 1 detachable micro floor head to give easy access into the most tightest of spaces around your home. Highly recommended.
This truly remarkable steam mop will slide and glide across your floors with such an ease you’ll be left yearning for the tools to make all cleaning jobs such a breeze. With the FSM1620 Packing many of the features native across all the steam mops from Black and Decker, such as AutoSelect to generate the right amount of steam for the floor surface, the amazingly agile mophead that pivots and swivels a full 180⁰ around furniture and a removable easy fill water tank – this standalone steam mop comes with the highest recommendation.
The 7-in-1 Deluxe with Steambuster is probably the flagship of the Black and Decker steam mop range and quite rightly is an excellent little mop and hand held steamer. Packed with little features like AutoSelect which automatically generates the right amount of steam based on the floor surface and a swivel head to easily manoeuvre around furniture and into tight spaces, the 7-in-1 will certainly do wonders for your floors. A quick 15 boil time will get you up and running and up to 16 minutes of steaming will see off most jobs around the home.
Another fine entry from Black and Decker is the FSM1610 Steam Mop which is again packed with many of the features that all the mops of this range come with. This is a real easy to use mop that will give you great looking floors in a super quick time due to its 15 second boil time and its 16 minutes of steam time. The easy to fill water tank, with its changing colours indicating the status of the boiler, comes with an in-built filtering system which will protect your mop from lime scale for longer and thus extending its life.

Our Verdict of the Black and Decker steam mop range
It’s not very often that we’re taken aback but when it comes to these Black and Decker steam mops then we certainly are. Yes, we fully expected high quality products from such a quality driven company because that is their forte, but for the steam mops to be SO good. Well, words almost fail us.
The added features and technologies that each mop comes packed with – regardless of its range and price level – is truly astounding. The AutoSelect sounds simple, but is highly effective when cleaning the variety of floor surfaces that can be found in the home. The Steam On Demand gives that extra Kapow! when needed and works like a charm. And manouevering the mops around the floor is almost bordering on enjoyable such is the ease in which they glide across surfaces, under furniture and into the tightest corners of your home.
If there is one criticism of the entire Black and Decker steam mop range is the lack of detachable hand held steamers. Which is a shame really when you consider how good the Steambuster is on the Deluxe 7-in-1 model. But as purely good old fashioned steam mops, the entire range is as good as it gets and each model comes with our highest recommendation.
There are a myriad of cleaning jobs within any home and relying on elbow grease alone means you’re heading for a long, tough and sometimes un-enjoyable experience when it comes to tackling them. Yet with that new, un-boxed steam cleaner ready for action, life just got a whole lot easier.
